    Default Did TOR kill armorcrafting?

I've seen this discussions on the official forums, and I've seen those discussions ingame. How do you guys feel about crafting weapons and armor?

On one side, tor has the basic items and armor system you find in any other mmo. Where players are looking for better armor all the time.
On the other hand, tor has the orange items. Which are basic items, with almost zero stats, but that offer 3 modding slots. As long as you keep those mods up to date and replace them every few level-ups, you can wear the same piece of armour from level 10, all the way to level 50.

I'm currently still using the same lightsaber I made myself at level 9, at the end of my jedi trials. Off course, the mods have changed over time, but I have no need for another lightsaber for the rest of this game. I'm also using an orange jedi robe, and orange pants, both of which I really like the looks of, so I'll probably end up wearing those for quite a few levels, upgrading the mods when I find or make better ones. If I end up finding something that looks better on my character, I'll just swap the mods and use that one.

So I don't really need any new weapon or amorpiece for the rest of the game, the only reason to swap armour is purely aesthetically. Did tor kill armorcrafting?

I've been finding better armor much faster than finding better mods, so for the most part those pieces tend to get discarded rather early for me. So for me, the answer is no.

Not at all, many end game items as well as leveling items can have better stats than the mod items you can uograde. Sometimes, like you stated it comes down to a aesthetic choice, but for the most part armor/wep crafting is alive and still very much needed in SWTOR.

I'm not sure about that, based on what I've seen ingame and on torhead. But if I look at the end game gear, it's mostly modded armor. Which means those mods can be pulled out and placed into the armorset you've been wearing since level 10. The endgame gear I've seen so far that doesn't have mods, but actuall base stats, is a lot less powerfull then the stuff that comes with mods, or can be made with mods.

That would make no sense if BioWare created a useless skill and useless end game armor/weps...I think we should both dig a little deeper on this subject.

I agree, it would pretty much make synthweaving and armortech useless, as well as add 2 useless gathering skills. Perhaps orange armor with the proper mods beat the armor than you can find at vendors and in mission drops/rewards, but player made armor tops them all?

If this game is anything like what it seems to be, or what other MMO's are, crafting professions are there to make gear that is entry level to what you are trying to accomplish. With that being said, WoW offered perks to leveling certain tradeskills, for example tailors made bags and certain kind of leg armors to enchant things. Just as an example. I'm not sure what TOR has to offer in that regard, but surely crafted items aren't the end-all in terms of gear, but the crafting professions have some sort of perk for maxing them out. Otherwise, I'll be dropping more than just slicing once I hit 50 for a mission crew skill. (Actually, if that were the case, I'd be keeping slicing...credits are ALWAYS a good thing...)

I figure why waste my time crafting at all when I can just gather mats and build up enough creds to buy whatever I need.
