    Default Item Modding

This is something I dont grasp...hook me up with a good link or share your knowledge on it. I want to upgrade some armor/weps, I know we have talked about this before and how it seems easier to just get a new item rather than modding an old one but now I want to hear from those who have done it and how it has worked out for them.

It's really quite simple. Some items allow modifications added in one of several different categories. Armors can have Armoring, Modification, and Enhancement slots that you can add to, Lightsabers have Color Crystals, Hilts, Mods, and Enhancement slots you can add to, and guns have Color Crystal, Barrel, Mods and Enhancement slots. Pretty much, any kind of modification type accessory can go into any type of item that has a 'modification' slot and so on.

To better answer your question on upgrading, I'll use the Resolve Hilt, which is your typical hilt used by Consular/Inquisitors. Resolve Hilt 1 will offer a base set of stats, while it slowly increments as you improve the item number (IE Resolve Hilt 2), but of course you are also increasing the level requirement of using it. You can also find or make an improved version of the hilt altogether. Say for instance the standard version of Resolve Hilt 1 is a premium item, if the Artificer disassembles it, s/he has the opportunity of learning a prototype version of the item, which will increase the stats slightly. If the prototype version is disassembled, the artificer has the opportunity of learning the artifact of it, raising the stats even higher. Higher level recipes can evolve into Advanced schematics to even Mastercraft schematics, each raising the stats that much further respectively.

Those people who are using the same orange pieces and are just upgrading them are simply keeping the modifications in their gear up-to-date. Personally, I prefer for my character to change his looks as his abilities change (higher level gear always tends to look slightly better). Does this answer your question at all? If not, refine it a bit. I'm actually pretty engrossed in the crewskill game right now

You pretty covered all of it and more, thanks. I was mostly curious about the orange items, I was trying to figure out what the cheaper route would be while still staying ahead in gear. Its not that I am attached to any one piece of gear, I just want to take the better route for cred saving.

The CHEAPEST way is to get the best gear is to do heroics, flashpoints, and collect comms from every missions to get the 1-2 items at the end of the planet. Orange gear is by no means the cheapest unless you are using comms to get modifications (which I suppose is still viable...of course to get most orange gear you need to use comms).

Well either way its not a huge deal, I am like you when it comes to leveling gear. I am shooting for my legacy name tonight and then I will play my inquis healer a bit I think.
