    Default World PvP Ethics?

This has been a pretty heated debate on the official forums and throughout MMO history. How do you feel about world PvP? Do you kill members of opposing factions on site regardless of whether they can defend themselves or not?

Personally, it all depends on my mood. If I'm in a good mood, I'll just ignore members of the opposite faction, sometimes I'll even go as far as help them kill the mob they are working on if they are having trouble, and only attack them if they attack me. If they are so low a level that it isn't even a challenge, I'll typically leave them alone or if I'm in a particularly sour mood, I won't kill them, but I'll grief them by using whatever abilities are in my arsenal to annoy them. When I was a WoW player playing on my priest, I would enjoy mind-controlling people and just jumping around with their toon, and when diminishing returns kicked in, I would pop off a fear to keep them from having any control, just to go back to MC once the diminishing returns wore off. Yep, I've certainly had a mean streak in my time, but overall I would say I'm a rather fair player. If it's red it'd dead hasn't ever been my motto.

I'm kind of the same way. I only attack when I am attacked, otherwise I just leave them alone. And I'm more of a fair player, myself. There is really no gain in playing dirty.

No quarter in my opinion. I am rarely granted the courtesy of being bypassed.

It depends on how generous I'm feeling that day. haha. Usually I'll leave them alone unless they are having problems fighting a mob or they attack me. But, if I'm I'm feeling evil and I can take them then I will.

This makes me hope I don't run into any of you I don't want to sound like a coward, but I hope that most people give me a chance to figure the game out before they jump on me like crazy.

I'm exactly the same as you JD, although I might be a bit more sour, especially when I'm rotten mood. Back in the wow days i was one of the first to hit level 70 on a PVP server and unlock the 270% flying mount. I used to fly around hellfire peninsula destroying horde with my arsenal of abilities!

I do regret it now, but at the time I really enjoyed it, although It probably wasn't the same for the receiving end :P

I'm not going to say I haven't indulged in raiding certain towns of opposing factions, but when I'm by myself just doing my thing, I'm somewhat of a care bear. I played on Skullcrusher in WoW though, and it was rare I was given the opportunity to just 'stick to myself' as world PvP was kinda our thing up until WotLK, when things got kinda stale in that regard. I recall being apart of the giant server crash when BC came out, as the portal gates were literally LITTERED with skeletons. It was a great day indeed

Haha that must have been fun!

I did play as a Pala tank so I could take on groups of 3-4 level 70 horde simultaneously, which was awesome. This was when palas were very OP though and I doubt I'll be able to do that as a Sith warrior Juggernaut

You seem so worried that the jedi classes will be underpowered and that the ranged claases will dominate. I would still wager that with force choke and force jump, plus throw lightsaber, they won't be as fearsome as you think. I'm planning on rolling a juggernaut right off the bat as well, and I can tell you I look FORWARD to any opposition, especially ranged classes who think they have a mechanical advantage

After actually doing some PvP and playing WoW, I'd say I'm a little more comfortable in a pvp environment. So far, I've been executing the 'if it's red it's dead' mentality I suppose, but I've been somewhat nice to those who offer no kills or experience (greys). I'm not the greatest of this, but hopefully it will prepare me to the mentality other players will bring when swtor comes out

There's no way to guarantee how other players are going to react to your presence until you are face to face with the enemy. You might as well be as defensive as possible once you are actually playing, unless of course you want to quickly be another death at their hands

I am of the red = dead mentality in Star Wars games. Not so much WoW because I rolled on a care bare server, but I remember SWG pvp and that was some awesome fun. Flagging yourself in Anchorhead and camping the shuttle was just some good times. I can also remember running with about 50 flagged rebels through any of the Imp controlled cities then moving on to the next city just as the defenders were coming in. I have had my share of ass kickings in pvp as well as dishing out the pain to some others so I know both sides of that fence very well, lol!!!

I never really got to enjoy SWG (it was considered ruined by the ezmode Jedi patch when I finally looked into playing). What would you consider the PvP like?

The pvp in SWG was awesome! You could flag and un-flag as you pleased, it did not matter what server you were on. The open world pvp is what really got your blood going. You could be sitting in a Cantina getting your buffs one minute and the next minute 3 flagged Imps walk in and the whole place erupts into a pvp-fest. I really loved that game and had they not changed it as drastically as they did, I would probably still be playing it to this day. I kind of like the first change they did with the Jedi Village and all but the Combat Upgrade killed it for me. If I wanted my skills to sparkle above my head when I used them I would have been playing WoW to begin with. I do not want to see that stuff in the Star Wars Universe...EVER!!! It's ok in fantasy games but keep that shit in those type of games and out of my Star Wars games please.

Hah, sounds like it was a lot of fun. As I mentioned, it's definitely a shame I didn't get to play it. A friend of mine was hooked on it for quite some time, so the only real experience with it was watching him.

I'll probably be a lot more harsher with world pvp because as you all know, the hatred between the dark and the light side is huge in comparison to horde:alliance! Therefore, it'll probably give me a bit more of a reason to murder some jedi

Also, i probably won't feel as bad after killing them because sith have no regret!

On a pvp server its always best to quest with someone to reduce the risk of running into someone that wants to give you a hard time. Its unavoidable of course, and be sure there will be some griefing from higher level players (theres always someone looking to grief lowbies). But thats when you call in the cavalry and ask your guild for assistance. This can even lead to some fun and exciting events that otherwise might have been missed on a pve server. Nothing like when comming to the rescue, and returning the favor to a griefer, when suddenly they've called in a few of their own friends. Before you know it, its world war 3 and theres 20 or 30 people all fighting in a turf war. This is the essence of PvP servers. All bets are off >

Don't get me wrong, there can aslo be times when the griefing is near unbearable. This is also a fact of pvp servers and thats why they call it "griefing". But if you're like me, u just wait till u get the chance to even up the odds and get some revenge. Take names and wait till u find the guy that called in his friends to bully you. The guy that teams up against me in a 2 on 1 should pray i don't find him alone haha ill remember his name and if hes alone and i have the opportunity to take him down, he better run xD
