Default Are you a lone wolf?

Personally, I spend a lot of my mornings / afternoons in MMO's primarily by myself. When I'm not very limber, I prefer to stay clear of the group settings as much as possible because I tend to get frustrated at others for not going in my pace or frustrated at myself for not being able to keep up. Night time, however, I'm far more relaxed and comfortable, and tend to be a much better player so the group setting is ideal. So what about you guys? Do you prefer the lone wolf approach or do you like to pew pew with company?

In Star Wars Galaxies I was part of a player run town, and did have a seat in the council, but most of my adventuring was done all solo. In Ultima Online I was part of a large roleplaying group called Crossroads of Yew, and while I enjoyed being part of such large community, I felt myself traveling solo quite a lot.
Word of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Neocron, Matrix Online, Warhammer Online, all games where I spend most of the time on my own, only teaming up to take on the harder missions or to help out a clanmember.
For City of Heroes and Champions Online, I try to team up as much as possible. But I will make sure my character is build in such a way that I can solo if I want to.

Am I a lone wolf? Yeah, pretty much.

I am not that much of a lone wolf - the group thing can be a lot of fun, but I do have to agree with the frustration part. Some people who are just not that serious about it should be "lone wolves"!

Sometimes I can agree with that statement, sometimes not. I might consider myself a bit of a min/max type player, but I'm not an elitist. If someone lags behind because they are lazy, that's one thing, if someone is lagging behind because they are a new player, that's completely different. We've all been there at one point or another, and I have no qualms whatsoever helping out a new guy.

I'm more of a lone wolf. I like to beef up my characters and then play things on my own. But, that's not how it always starts in the beginning. haha. I imagine I'll be doing a lot of group quests before I get big enough to solo.

It also depends on the guild. If it's a nice group of people that I like, I'm apt to do more quests.

All too true! It's so rare to find a group of people levelheaded enough to connect with and actually play with on a regular basis (causing me to play more with a group than solo). This is my case, anyway.

I'm a little intimidated by the fact that not everyone is going to have this lone wolf mindset, and I'll just be spending hours getting killed by 5 guys and not be able to do anything about it.

Pretty much I am, yeah. I quest solo and usually skip group dungeons whilst levelling. Of course, when it comes to raids, you need a group, and that's where a good guild comes into it's own.

I would think so, yes. What about on a PvP server though?

I prefer playing with a group of either friends I know IRL or in-game as that's what makes MMOs worthwhile IMO as you can't get that group interaction in RPGs. However, when I'm tired, I do tend to solo more often as I can just do things at my own pace.

That is about as close to I play as it gets. Basically, I enjoy the multiplayer aspect because there isn't much of another reason to play an MMO. On the other hand, sometimes I'm just not in the mood to put up with other people. There are some people I could play with at any time, but that's been a slimmer list than I would prefer.

I think i made mention of this in another post, but i finally found the article in the DH website that i read about soloing with companions. Sounds to me like theyll be a big part of solo leveling and make things much easier for the casual solo player.
I personally find myself leveling the majority alone. I dont mind company but it seems like i can go at a faster pace if im on my own grinding through objectives. i like to be in the driver seat when playing (hence im prone to play a tank)

I find myself soloing or "Lone Wolfing" in these games the most. I like to be able to sit down play and leave when I want to without having to collect together a pick up group. I do not mind so much getting together with a regular group but I guess I am not a people person when it comes to strangers.

The companions do sound like a small solution. They will always be ready to play when we are and will not mind when we have to leave without notice.

Time to kick this topic up again.

After playing 22 levels on my jedi guardian, I can once again confirm that I'm a lone wolf.
So far I've only teamed up for flashpoints and heroics, and a few levels on corruscant together with my cousin. The fact that you run around with a companion really takes away the need to team up for regular questing.
And looking at other players, I see most of them running around solo as well, the times I've seen 2 or more players working together can be counted on 1 hand.

I see people teamed up all the time. I was teaming up for heroics pretty consistently, but now I'm just untracking the heroic missions until I'm off the planet, to which I discard them. Seems to be working a lot better for me, and I'm progressing a lot faster.

I am a lone wolf when it comes to leveling in any game, I am slow and like to dink off so its not fair of me to expect others to deal with that, lol. Just like any other MMO people only team up for the hard quests, flash points, operations, and warzones. Nothing has changed except for the fact that every class gets a "helper" making leveling as a loner a little bit easier.

Really? Just like Flashpoints, the heroic missions often drop some of the better gear, either from a boss fight or from a quest reward.

I skip the heroics too, gear while leveling is the least of my concern.

    Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

That must be the pvp mindset then.

I guess gear is more important for pve gameplay, while a pvp'er only cares about end-game gear?
