Thread: My first few days as a Bounty Hunter.

When I first heard of this game last year I knew what I wanted to be, a bounty hunter, when I first played this game last month I knew my choice was dead on. Now that I have gotten into the early access and have actually progressed my bounty hunter into the early teens of leveling I have to say,its AMAZING. I had thought going into this I was going to spec into AC Powertech tanking, boy I was wrong...I guess I am a sucker for ranged double blaster madness. I have picked the AC Merc Pyrotech tree and will never look back, with Mako by my side healing me I feel as if I can take on this game solo. The hardest part for me so far has been choosing my crew skills...that took me an hour atleast to pick the 3 I wanted, I ended up with Slicing, Scavenging, and Cybertech. I went with 2 gathering skills and 1 crafting, although I am usually all gathering, I wanted to try something different. Its nice to be able to send Mako out on little missions to gather and craft, it does cost money however and can drain your funds fast if you are not careful.

I tend to be a slow leveler due to my ability to get side tracked by exploring and socializing, however, I plan on updating this thread throughout the week of early access so that we have something to reference back to for launch or in the future when I want to remember the good old days. I will update later tonight after my first group run through Black Talon. Dont worry, no spoilers...I am being as vague as possible. See you all out there.

I've read quite a bit about crafting, other than harvesting from mobs, is there really no REAL harvesting? Just sending your crew? I see upsides and downsides to this. For example, when I played WoW, there were some days where I casually farmed and enjoyed doing it. Other days I needed something, farmed, and hated it. What I'm getting it is that it would be amazing if we could do both, that way the days I don't feel like it I can send the crew and days I want to I can go farm.

If you want to post spoilers, feel free, just put up a spoiler tag in the thread. I'd say after a month or so, we won't even need to worry about even that much as everyone will have either already done it or doing it a second time, while the newer players probably wouldn't be reading into it too much anyway. Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences!

Giggle at me will you!? Ha! Yes, I went the dps route with my BH main spec. I know...I had planned on tanking, but ranged dps gets me everytime. I will be leveling one of each class (eventually) so I may find my way into a tanking roll one day. As far as gathering goes, you can send your crew to go do that or craft for you, also there are nodes in the game as well as mobs that you harvest mats from as well...so if you get the urge to farm some mats you can. On the topic of gathering, I dropped Cybertech and went with Archaeology for pure gathering skills...I am in it 100% for the credits. More on that later.

Now for the good stuff, at level 13 I got around to running my first flash point, The Black Talon, which is available at level 10...I was slacking. It was easy and from what I have heard from others its just as easy at 10 and it is at 13. The amount of time spent in BT was minimal, maybe a 20 minute run if that. The loot was decent, the cut scenes amazing, and by letting the captain live I picked up my 3rd title...there is one for killing him too. I also had a little adventure with one of the 2+ man heroic quests, lets just say that mutiple people trying to spawn the same quest boss in an open world setting can get very annoying. You will know what I mean when you get to that point. I am going back to it, more information in the morning.

I'd imagine, I remember playing the WoW expansions at launch and taking forever to get anything done, especially on a PvP server. It was still LOADS of fun though, and I anticipate even though it takes me an hour to get to a particular mob that I want, I'll still enjoy seeing all the people.

I'm actually surprised that the flashpoint is so short. For whatever reason, I was expecting to see them much much longer with a lot more challenge. Then again, you find a decent group and anything becomes that much easier.

What titles do you have access to already? I imagine my initial titles will be a bit different as you probably have some class dependent ones, but just curious. I'll probably care a lot less about such little details once I'm in and playing the game

Well the reason the FP was so short and quick was due to the fact that I out leveled it, and its only a taste of what is to come, the next one on the list The Hammer Station requires a little more work. I will run HS today at some point and give a little update on it as well as how the mid to late teen levels are treating me. As far as titles I have "Hired Gun", "The Heartless", and "The Stalwart"...with me being a title freak it makes me happy to have so many so early.

At some point last night I hit level 14, this was a life saver for me...you get a skill called Sprint, it increases movement speed by 35% outside of combat...praise the gods and pass the beans! I was getting so annoyed and my rate of travel and then boom, this little gem was dropped on me. No running from area to area, quest to quest, or whatever is much quicker. In 10 more levels I can purchase my speeder and speeder training which costs is the range of 45,000 credits...I have some saving to do. I had planned to hussle the Galatic Trade Market (auction house) with my gathering skill items, however the market is of course not up to par and I feel as if I would lose creds if I started doing this now. One thing that concerns me is that with the ability to send your crew out to gather for you. I think it may lower the potential prices of mats, those people who hate farming for mats and just buy them now can pay to have a crew member attempt to get what they need...only time will tell with this.

I noticed Black Talon is in fact easier and shorter then its Republic counterpart. The first boss you encounter in the Esseles puts up much more of a fight and requires a bit more planning and skills. In fact most pick up group seem to get stuck at the first boss, probably mainly due people not fully understanding the classes and their role in a group yet.

Small update before I go to bed. I hit level 17 and I got my ship tonight after finishing all my class quests on DK, it actually made me smile in real life. I did a little space combat, its a decent "mini game" to kill some time. With it came my second crew member, a droid, also a bank access area, a galactic map, and a few other nifty little toys. They are doing maintenance now so I am calling it a night. I am beat...

Only your second? When I got my ship with my jedi knight, I got my 2nd companion right before I got the ship, so the droid that came with the ship was my 3th.
Also, space combat is fun indeed, and a nice chance from the regular missions.

Correct I am only on companion #2, from everything I have heard thats how it was for everyone. I may be wrong. Are you refering to beta or this live version when you got yours?

That was in beta, though I doubt they totally changed the entire quest line by now, so I guess it's different for each class. The jedi knight gets his 2nd companion shortly after ariving at the 2nd planet, though the companion isn't permanent yet at that point (you can't adjust her gear/weapons, nor send her on missions). It becomes a permanent companion right before you get your ship, which comes with your 3th companion.

Well I am so close to level 20, my goal is level 25 by official launch. Last night was kick ass, the guild I am in, Aggro Train had a drunk guild night. We got smashed and did a bunch of warzones. We lost our first one but after that went on a 6 game win streak. Huttball is by far my favorite, I am learning how to use the map to my advantage which is something I have never been able to do in any other MMO. Being a merc dps I have figured out that my roll is to kill kill kill! I also ran the second instance available to me last night, Hammer Station, it is a little harder but nothing crazy by any means.

Back on track, I hit level 21 tonight...4 more level in 2 days to meet my pre official launch goal of 25. I am having so much fun that i cant go into detail on anyone thing. I can tell you that I need to learn a proper rotation and that space combat is a good way to kill time while still scoring xp and creds. I found out a little about the legacy system tonight and will post what details I have on it tomorrow...I am beat, time to hit the sack.

Well I missed my official launch level of 25 by 3 levels...oh well, pretty good I guess. I made the mistake of hitting it so hard in the first 4 days that I go burned out in the last few...serves me right. I cant wait to see you all out there and hear your own stories.
