I haven't taken the opportunity to try a world boss yet, but what exactly are the benefits? Achievement codex? Plenty of good loot to accommodate an 8-man op team?

codex and ok loots dibends on the lvl of the boss. and good feeling. remainder world bosses are hard ;D

World bosses require a larger team. It's a fun fight, and you get xp, codex entry and a chance for excellent loot (it only drops 1 item, and you are with 6-16 players to take it down). The world boss on corsuscant for example drops purple gear, and has appearantly a chance to drop a silver lightsaber crystal.

Oooooh. Is silver forbidden to a certain alignment? I don't even see it on Torhead. Still waiting for a purple crystal!
