So, the game is now available as pre-order. Who is going to buy it straight away?

I don't think I will, at least not before I had a chance to try the game myself.

I'm going to gamestop today. All online orders for the Collector's Edition have sold out, apparently. Also, with the pre-order, you get early game access. I'm totally down, because the early game access starts, supposedly, in a week or two.

Early access is usually only 3 days or so before release, a week tops. I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere that you get beta access with it.. Do you have a source to confirm this?

Specifically? No. Nothing says, specifically, that pre-ordering will enable players to take part in the September Beta Test Weekends. However, it's been confirmed by a source in the Game Test Program that, among them (all from the last testing round were invited back for the next round, in late August), Pre-Order players will be granted access, as well as other Testers from the sign-up. The idea is to stress test the servers, among other things.

No, there is no link for this- it's a guy I know, where I live. I've literally watched him play the game. So, to recap, no- there is no "hard evidence" of what you asked. But I literally have seen the test forums. It's going to happen.

I've been extremely far out of the loop as of late thanks to the serious lack of internet, but has a release date been set?

By the end of this year, somewhere in or around the holiday period.

Awesome, there's a pretty good chance I'll have the satellite up and running around that time so I'll be able to play (when it's not storming of course....damned country).

Satellite? Is that even a viable option to play online?
Is there really no option for adsl or cable in your area? I always thought of the US as a modern, technologically advanced country.

There's probably more network connections in America than anywhere else in the world, combined. That said, there are still rural areas (the country) in the US where cable internet or aDSL hasn't been able to make an impact, due to the terrain, etc.

It really isn't viable for a company to spend, literally, millions upon millions of dollars to provide internet or cable to a only handful of people. they would have to wait over a hundred years to recover their investment.

I pre-ordered the day they announced it and there were still some places that had the CE available. I did not get it cuz, well, $150 us is really expensive and I have 7 kids lol!!!

It's viable as long as it's not storming outside. Still not great, but it is my only option. I live so far out in the country that I don't even have a phone line ran to my house, if that tells you anything.

My dad lives in Sweden, in the middle of nowhere, and he uses satellite as well. Though since I often hear him complaining about lousy connection, I never thought of it as being usable for gaming. Afaik, it's not even available here in Belgium.
Though we do have a 99% coverage with the cellphone network, so most people who live in a more remote place use 3G (or gprs) as connection. Neither of those are usable for gaming either, gprs is to slow, and our 3G network operators all have data limits (2GB max).


And on topic, I placed my order a few days ago. Just the digital standard edition. I really don't need all that useless stuff that comes with the Digitel deluxe or CE.

I haven't preordered (yet), I will most likely be getting the standard edition, though.

Hey JD, can you get one of those air cards for your computer/laptop to game? My parents had satellite for a few years and it was tough just going from site to site.

Doesn't those air cards go by cell towers as opposed to satellite relay? If so, it's going to do as little for me as my cell phone is now. I'll do a little research before I completely decide against it though, thanks for the heads up.

Cellphone network depends on what data coverage you have in your area. I asume it's slower then what satellite could offer you?

I have Edge where I live, and I barely even have that.

Just thought I would chime in and say I ordered one of the collectors editions from my local GameStop the day they became available, now I wait for my early start.

I am looking at the pre-orders and wondering if the extra digital items in the DE and CE are worth the extra cost? I play these games with my kids so I am looking at getting 2-3 copies. An extra $20 a game can add up. I will not even discuss the extra $90. LOL

I'm a little curious as well as I will hav e 2 copies to buy. Id look it up and share with the crowd like a good host...but...I'm on a cell phone of course.

Man, I wish the Reply to Thread button was smaller or the Post Quick Reply was bigger. Several times now I have typed a post in this Quick Reply Block and hit the BIG GREEN BUTTON instead of the wee little grey one. Everything I typed is lost.

The good news is that most the time what I typed must not have been that important because I usually decide not to waste my time typing it again.
